A 39 bedded purpose-built psychiatric intensive care unit in South West London are seeking a Ward Manager to join their team. The hospital provides a secure and safe, gender-specific environment for adults who have suffered an acute deterioration or relapse in their mental wellbeing.Our client specialises in providing intensive and bespoke, individualised treatment plans and accept those with multiple diagnoses, complex health needs and challenging behaviours from across the country who are detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007). They currently have over 150 employees and we have a low turnover of staff. Our client has a number of awards such as NIMHE and NAPICU for user focussed initiatives and project work, the Heartbeat Award, Bronze CAP award 2012 for catering, Bronze CAP award 2012 for housekeeping and five stars awarded by the Environmental Health Office. Ensure adequate and appropriate skill mix of nursing and rehabilitation assistant staff for all shifts (24hr) and notification of vacancies to line manager through effective use of staff profile (including on-call Management for the unit)Ensure that MHA and MCA standards are upheld and work to uphold NMC's code of practice.Ensure all relevant policies are in place, reviewed and updated as and when necessary (e.g. centre guidelines/patient information) in liaison with multidisciplinary teamsProvide Clinical Leadership for nursing team and build relationships with CommissionersEnsure the CQC regulations, outcomes and judgement framework adhered to at all timesParticipate in assessments and interventions for service users and familiesMonitor standards of care and take action where standards are not metEnsure clinical records are well maintained and systems are in place for staff to communicate effectively on clinical issues ensuring awareness of legal implicationsEnsure named nurse provides clinical reports and funding justification as required for the purchasersEnsuring all Unit management responsibilities are met and all reports are up to dateEnsure all staff are inducted thoroughly in all clinical, centre and company procedures and are regularly appraised on performance and all development needs are identifiedWork collaboratively with MDT (including cross functionally) through effective leadership and motivational skillsTake responsibility for own personal & professional development through the performance and development reviews and attending all relevant trainingComply with all company policies and proceduresJob Requirements:In order to achieve this our Ward Manager should have:Experience of managing/supervising a team/Deputy Manager Management qualifications NVQ level 4 or equivalent, or a willingness to complete qualification. (a requirement to be the Registered Manager)Our Ward Manager must be a Qualified Nurse and hold a current registration with the NMC.You must have senior practitioner experience in one of following areas:-Acute Psychiatry-Forensic Medicine-RehabilitationAlong with up-to-date knowledge of Mental Health Act /Mental Capacity Act/ DoLs /Health & Safety Legislation & Risk AssessmentGood organisational and planning skills and ability to communicate at all levels.Knowledge of Clinical Governance & National Service Framework i.e. Mental Health, longer term conditionsWorking knowledge of the Care Quality Commission (outcomes, regulations and judgement framework)An excellent induction and continued training is provided, with great opportunities to broaden your skill base
